‘Dangerous’ man who bit off part of person’s ear jailed

A man has been jailed after biting off part of another person’s ear during an attack in Stanstead Abbots.

Sean Turner, of Church Street, Enfield, carried out the attack after the victim had pulled up along the High Street in a vehicle to collect his son on August 2, 2018.

The two got into a verbal altercation and when the victim got out of the vehicle, Turner struck out and overpowered him before biting off part of his right ear.

Members of the public intervened and Turner ran off.

The 43-year-old was found six days later and arrested, before being charged in February 2019 with section 18 GBH with intent.

He pleaded not guilty and a week-long trial commenced at St Albans Crown Court on Monday 17 January.

He was found guilty by a jury and subsequently sentenced last week at Huntingdon Crown Court, where he was jailed for five years.

Detective Constable Chris Golding, from the East Herts Local Crime Unit, led the investigation. He said: “This was nasty, unprovoked attack which left the victim with a serious injury. I’m pleased that this dangerous individual is now off the streets.”
